Drake‘s Hotline Bling is the gift that won’t stop giving. This weekend the track made a surprise appearance at an all-star musician jam at Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival in Florida.
The jam was named PoWoW! and was the collaborative brainchild of Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Miguel. The festival’s own website leading up to the jam foreshadowed that the jam would be “a once-in-a-lifetime collaborative concert… where anything can happen and anyone can walk onstage”.
They obviously weren’t kidding, and in the midst of some epic covers of David Bowie, Michael Jackson and The Rolling Stones, the band got real funky with horns and more, on a surprising but no less sensational cover of Drake. The super-group was made of Butler, Miguel, John Oates, Kamasi Washington and the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
As if anyone in the audience had settled in by the end of the show, the encore threw the crowd another curveball during the encore when the Skrillex and Marcus Mumford joined the band onstage for more covers of The Clash and Earth, Wind & Fire.
