UPDATE: Hottest 100 Voting Closes: Here Are The Songs Leading The Votes So Far

ORIGINAL STORY: The Bean Counter’s 100 is back for the third year running, and it’s tracking your Hottest 100 votes in an attempt to predict who will top the countdown of triple j‘s biggest songs for 2018.

Unlike 100 Warm Tunas, which is also tracking the public’s votes, The Bean Counter’s 100 (run by 40-year-old Brisbane accountant Tim Wilshire) is manually counting votes posted to Instagram, instead of using complex software.

Mr Wilshire correctly predicted eight of the songs which appeared in last year’s top 10, and he’s hoping to be even more accurate this year.

“I spend two hours a day doing the count, picking up unique Instagram tags,” he tells Music Feeds.

“I always find my results very accurate. It was easy to pick the winner last year.”

Mr Wilshire believes ‘Confidence’ by Ocean Alley and ‘This Is America’ by Childish Gambino are the most likely songs to top this year’s countdown.

“Their count for the top two looks a long way ahead of the nearest contenders,” he says.

“Our records indicate ‘Dinosaurs’ by Ruby Fields has been doing very well, but we have seen fake Instagram accounts and duplicate entries, which may be affecting other counts that aren’t careful, in my opinion.

“I’m not 100 per cent sold on 100 Warm Tunas not picking up duplications and fake data, but it’s still pretty accurate nonetheless.

“Experience has taught me a lot with the last few years. We have added a few more hashtags in the searches to get a more balanced result as well. We also track the number of Instagram followers of every artist projected in the top 100.”

The Bean Counter’s 100 has tallied over 27,000 votes at the time of writing, and you can see Mr Wilshire’s latest Hottest 100 predictions down below. He will also be posting later counts on the official Bean Counter’s 100 website.

Kendrick Lamar claimed first place in the Hottest 100 of 2017 with his huge hit ‘HUMBLE.’, after 2.35 million votes were cast in last year’s countdown.

The Hottest 100 of 2018 will be broadcast on Sunday, 27th January 2019, with the Hottest 200 to follow on Monday, 28th January.
