Brace yourselves Victorians, because a state-wide music festival to end all state-wide music festivals could be heading your way in 2020.
That’s according to the state’s Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley, who’s flagged a new 10-day music festival as a key election promise if punters vote the Labor Government back into power at the state election this Saturday, 24th November.
Taking to Facebook, Foley outlined the 240-hour event, which will supposedly feature free and ticketed live music, food, wine and craft beer across a range of venues around the state.
“It’s called ‘Victoria Live’ – and only a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver it,” the MP said.
“This huge festival will bring the best live music to every corner of Victoria – cementing our status as the music capital of the world and providing more opportunities for artists,” Foley added in a statement to press.
“It will fill venues across Victoria – from the laneways of Melbourne to regional pubs and clubs throughout the state – attracting visitors, boosting business and supporting thousands of local jobs.
“From tiny music venues, to our big cultural institutions, to our iconic laneways and trams, music will be well and truly in the air.”
Wow, he’s really rubbing salt into Sydney’s wounds right now, isn’t he?
Mushroom Group and its company Frontier Touring are on board for the project.
In a statement to Music Feeds, Mushroom Group founder and chairman Michael Gudinski added:
“It is a proven reality that a robust live music scene will continue to create more jobs and raise local revenue while playing a vital part in our cultural fabric and community.
“Melbourne has a rich history in live music and I personally believe this announcement by Labor will continue to ensure that this wonderful city continues to set the standard for Australia as one of world’s music capitals.”
‘Victoria Live’ is slated to go down in the winter of 2020, if Labor’s Daniel Andrews is re-elected as Premier.
