UK punks IDLES will release their fourth album before the year is out. The follow up to 2020’s Ultra Mono is called Crawler and it’s due for release on Friday, November 12th via Partisan Records.
Crawler was recorded at Real World Studios in Bath, just outside of the band’s home city of Bristol. The album was recorded during the pandemic and features co-production from LA-based hip hop producer Kenny Beats. Beats is a known fan of the band and contributed programming to Ultra Mono. His past clients include Slowthai, Dominic Fike, Denzel Curry, Rico Nasty, FKA twigs and Vince Staples.
IDLES have shared Crawler‘s lead single, ‘The Beachland Ballroom’. It’s a slow-burner that gives frontperson Joe Talbot an opportunity to show off his vocal range.
“Being able to write a soul tune like this made me go, fuck—we’re at a place where we’re actually allowed to go to these big rooms and be creative and not just go through the motions and really appreciate what we’ve got,” Talbot said in a statement. “The song is sort of an allegory of feeling lost and getting through it. It’s one that I really love singing.”
Talbot and IDLES have been involved in a stack of collaborations in recent years, teaming up with artists as diverse as Anna Calvi, Sharon Van Etten, Turbowolf, Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, The Streets and Jehnny Beth, as well as contributing a version of ‘The God That Failed‘ to The Metallica Blacklist.
