Dynamic power-duo Iggy Pop and Josh Homme have sliced off a third helping from their new collaborative album, Post-Pop Depression.
Along the same lines as their previous offerings Gardenia and Break Into Your Heart, new track Sunday is a winding, six-minute serving of 70’s style pop-rock, but it also comes packing plenty of surprises.
Later on in the cut, female vocalists join Pop for the chorus, triggering guitar solos, a long outro fade-out culminating in a minute-long orchestral interlude.
Post Pop Depression was recorded with the help of Homme’s Queens Of The Stone Age bandmate Dean Fertita and Arctic Monkeys’ drummer Matt Heldersis.
The supergroup will be playing a handful of live dates around the globe, with Homme on record as saying that they’ll only perform in “small, beautiful theatres where their presence might still seem disruptive”.
It’s not yet known whether Australia could be on the cards, but we’ll keep you updated.
And it’s not the only new project that Homme and Pop have been up to together of late. The pair will also star in the upcoming film Gutterdämmerung – “the loudest silent movie on earth” – alongside the late Lemmy Kilmister and a cast of other rock icons, which is slated for release later this year.
Post-Pop Depression, meanwhile, is due out on March 18th. Check out its latest track Sunday below.
