Rapper and touring force majure Illy is back with a follow up to 2015’s megahit Swear Jar. This time, ya boy has teamed up with the über talented Vera Blue for his brand new single Papercuts.
Papercuts is the first peek under the hood of Illy’s next record which will bring him up to five studio releases. The as-yet-untitled album can really only be varying degrees of awesome considering the involvement of hip hop production superkid M-Phazes (Eminem, Kimbra). The album currently has a big ol’ street date of ‘TBA’.
Illy has offered some on insight on Papercuts, as well as into how the new single is indicative of the new album’s direction.
“I’ve been holding on to Papercuts for a while, and I’m really excited that it’s finally coming out,” said Illy. “It’s a different vibe to anything I’ve done before. I love that about it. A lot of rap music’s been uninspiring lately. I wanted to make an album that didn’t sound like anything else out, and bring back those big moments and big songs that make albums stand out. I can’t wait to share the rest of this one.”
Since bursting onto the scene in 2009, the dude has developed a nasty habit for writing hits. Over the years, he’s clocked 7 tracks into various Hottest 100 countdowns. His long-standing live demand has seen him hit everywhere from Splendour in the Grass to Groovin The Moo to Festival of the Sun with plenty of headline shows to fill in the gaps.
Illy will be performing at Splendour In The Grass again this year, and there is sure to be a high chance of new tunage. As for Vera Blue, you can catch her throughout August on her headline run.
