Interpol frontman Paul Banks says he wishes the band was not forced to play live and would prefer instead to release “three records a year.” The Splendour-bound singer revealed in a new interview that he prefers spending time in the studio to on the road, which he does for financial reasons.
“I would love to not fucking tour, man,” declares Banks in an upcoming interview with The Quietus. “I would love to put out three records a year if I didn’t have to tour. I mean, I would tour, but all artists now have to spend less time in the studio and more time on the road because there’s no money any more in records. And so I feel like records are going to change. And maybe you adapt.”
The comments come ahead of Interpol’s highly-anticipated performance at Splendour In The Grass and the release of their fifth studio album, El Pintor, from which the New York post-punk revivalists recently shared the shimmering All The Rage Back Home – watch the music video below.
Regardless of whether or not Banks decides to make Interpol a studio-only act, Harlem rapper Azealia Banks is likely to be down. After announcing that she was now free of her label, who’d long delayed the release of her debut album, Banks said that her only wish now was to join Interpol.
