After reports and speculation, it’s official. Apple has announced the end of iTunes and will replace the service with a trio of apps: Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV.
Apple reckons the new Apple Music app will be the ultimate music streaming experience. Your music library will have all of your tunes, whether they’re downloaded, bought, or ripped from a CD (throwback) and you’ll still be able to buy songs through iTunes.
The Apple TV app will have channels and personalised recommendations for you — as well as more than 100,000 movies and TV shows that you can browse, buy, or rent.
The Apple Podcast app will have more than 700,000 choices and will have new categories like ‘curated collections by editors’ and search tools that’ll allow you to find poddies by discussion topic.
Chatting about MacOS Catalina, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi said, “Users will appreciate how they can expand their workspace with Sidecar, enabling new ways of interacting with Mac apps using iPad and Apple Pencil. And with new developer technologies, users will see more great third-party apps arrive on the Mac this spring.”
Backing up, updating, and restoring devices will now be done through Finder.
Apparently the new Apple Music app will be “lightning fast, fun, and easy to use”.
