Jack White it set to release a silk-screened box of live acoustic recordings from two of his impromptu shows last year in April.
These 2015 shows were for only the luckiest of fans, with locations announced on the day and tickets sold for as little as $3 cash on a first come first served basis. These series of performances used only ribbon microphones to amplify the quartet (made up of Fats Kaplin, Lillie Mae Rische, and Dominic Davis), which is quite the deviation from White’s usual stacks of vintage amps and assemblage of guitar pedals to produce heavily processed sounds.
On the recordings, White plays songs from the White Stripes, the Raconteurs, his own solo material as well as throwing in a couple of covers including I Asked For Water (She Gave Me Gasoline) by the Howlin’ Wolves and Goodnight Irene by Lead Belly.
A stripped back version of the White Stripes Sugar Never Tasted So Good, has been released by Third Man Records to promote the new box set. Listen to that below.
In the box set will be Acoustic in Idaho and Acoustic in Anchorage, a double-LP pressed on “Icy Idaho Blue vinyl”, as well as a live DVD of his Alaska show. These will be accompanied by a 52-page photography book Pictures From Unknown States, and 2 prints, exhibiting images from his 2015 acoustic tour.
Now every Jack White enthusiast can experience these rare and intimate acoustic shows for themselves. With the combination of both image and sound, it will be almost as good as having been there in the flesh. Almost.
