Announced yesterday on the Splendour In The Grass 2016 lineup, James Blake has dropped the motherload for fans today, not only announcing that his long awaited new album is finished, but also sharing a fresh track, Timeless.
Making a surprise appearance on BBC Radio 1 today, where he revealed his new album Radio Silence is in the can. revealing that the album is complete. “I was here [in Los Angeles] finishing off a few things. I did this thing I’m gonna put out at some point,” he said.
Radio Silence is the follow up to Blake’s Mercury Award-winning 2013 album Overgrown. Since then Blake has dropped the 200 Press EP and a bunch of other new tracks like 40455, a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s The Sound Of Silence, slow burning track Modern Soul, as well as some remixes.
“I said it a couple of months ago that I think it’s time to start recording an album because–you know–there’ve been requests,” he added today. “People have been asking if I’m going to record a record, so I did one.”
“It turned out great–quite long, but I’m really happy with it.” Blake confirmed Radio Silence contains 18 tracks, including one that’s over 20 minutes long.
It has also been previously reported that the new album will feature contributions from Kanye West, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, and New Zealander Connan Mockasin.
While Blake didn’t reveal the exact release date for the record, hopefully Aussie punters will be amongst the first to hear fresh James Blake material when he hits our shores for Splendour 2016.
