Actor James Van Der Beek’s latest role is, well, playing Diplo in a hilarious new ad for the producer’s Mad Decent Block Party festival.
Van Der Beek, who’s best known for playing Dawson Leery in Dawson’s Creek and Mox in Varsity Blues, uses his new gig to drop an A+ impersonation of a typical day in the life of Diplo, complete with silk bedsheets, plenty of air horn and a heavy use of the words “fam”, “lit” and “squad”.
Van Der Beek’s amazing Diplo parody (below) sees him Diplo reveal that he actually has “a whole army of little elves working day and night” in a secret music studio, but he insists that his life isn’t too different to the average person’s, despite having money constantly falling from the ceiling of his house.
Outside of being parodied by Van Der Beek, the real Diplo is currently working on a new Major Lazer album and, if Van Der Beek’s parody is correct, taking down haters ninjas.
Earlier this month, Diplo revealed that he thinks DJs are “really lame”, and said that EDM is “a sinking ship”. His comments came after his fellow producer Dillon Francis premiered his DJ parody series DJ World, proving yet again that some DJs legitimately enjoy taking the piss out of themselves.
Watch James Van Der Beek nail his Diplo parody so, so hard, below.
This year’s Mad Decent Block Party tour will see the likes of Dillon Francis, RL Grime, Baauer, Alison Wonderland and Flosstradamus make their way around the US from July until October.
