Jay-Z has not been shy in the past about revealing his affection for British bands, with the towering rapper previously remarking upon his partiality for Coldplay. Now it seems he is also a fan of Elbow.
The source of this news is veteran BBC radio personality Jo Whiley, who revealed the news to Bang Showbiz (via Musicrooms.net). Whiley apparently watched Elbow perform with Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce at June’s Glastonbury from the side of the stage.
Whiley says that the rapper wanted to know about the band, saying, “Tell me about this band, who are they, what have they done?” Whiley also said that he seemed “genuinely, really interested, and he did love Elbow.”
Whiley said, “Because he is who he is, nobody talks to him, so he just stands there on his own looking a little bit lonely and forlorn; and, because he’d been on the Live Lounge on my [previous Radio One] show, I stood and chatted to him.”
Spinner reports that Jay-Z also has a soft spot for the simpering young wretch that is Paolo Nutini.
