JAY-Z is reportedly working on a posthumous Prince record which will be a Tidal exclusive.
Prince’s estate has announced the compilation of unreleased material saying it’s due for release in 2019 and will be overseen by JAY-Z.
“Our only goal is to share Prince’s music with his fans as he wanted,” JAY-Z said in a statement.
“After thoughtful and honest conversation with him, he chose TIDAL as his partner for HITnRUN Phase One and HITnRUN Phase Two, and we will continue to respect and honor Prince’s enduring legacy and wishes with this new collection.”
As CoS point out, it’s an interesting development as the estate has a troubled history with Tidal.
Tidal was the only streaming platform that housed Prince’s music before his death but following it the estate broke the agreement. JAY-Z later sued the estate for terminating the agreement.
It seems that the relationship has been repaired as this forthcoming Prince record will stream exclusively on Tidal for two weeks before a wider release.
Since Prince’s passing we’ve seen a reissue of Purple Rain and a greatest hits compilation.
