Ever the working class man, national treasure Jimmy Barnes is getting ready to strap on the ol’ timber n’ steel six-string and embark on a marathon national acoustic tour, under the banner of Flesh And Wood.
The title refers to Barnesy’s 1993 unplugged album, which features a number of his solo and Cold Chisel-era hits, as well as some well-known covers, and duets with legendary Aussie artists, from Diesel to Tommy Emmanuel, and internationals like the late, great Joe Cocker.
This year’s Flesh and Wood Acoustic Tour will see the pub rock hero play a behemoth 2-hour set, backed by a nine-piece band, performing songs from across the Flesh and Wood album as well as some of his biggest hits.
Barnesy’s latest record, 30:30 Hindsight, debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Album Chart, becoming his 10th solo disc to claim the top spot, and was followed up by a number of sell-out shows as part of a national album tour. Unfortunately, the singer had to cancel a few shows last year due to health issues, but he’s keeping his focus firmly on the positives.
“Last year’s regional Flesh and Wood shows on the 30:30 tour were almost as much fun as recording the album in the first place,” the veteran rocker said. “It had been a long time since I’d sung a lot of the tracks and it was great to perform them all again acoustically as they were on the album.
“The show is broken up into two parts so I’ll get the chance to tell some stories as well as sing all these great songs with the band and an added string section when we take the show around the country in July.”
Barnesy’s Flesh and Wood Acoustic Tour 2015 kicks off on Friday, 3rd July in Brisbane, and passes through Toowoomba, Perth, Adelaide and Sydney before wrapping up in Melbourne.
