Jimmy Barnes Cancels Rock The Boat Performance Due to Bacterial Pneumonia

Jimmy Barnes won’t be jumping aboard the music cruise Rock The Boat as scheduled. The seven-night cruise, which travels from Sydney to Noumea and Lifou, is already underway. However, Barnes has revealed he’s experiencing bacterial pneumonia, preventing him from fulfilling his headline duties.

“I’m sorry to let you know that I’ve been receiving intravenous antibiotics over the last 36 hours to treat bacterial pneumonia,” Barnes wrote on social media. Barnes was supposed to meet the boat in Noumea. But while he won’t be there, his band, including daughter Mahalia and “other special guests”, are still making the trip.

Jimmy Barnes: “The timing couldn’t be worse”

Barnes sent a heartfelt apology to those on board who’ll be disappointed by his absence. “I’d like to apologise sincerely to everyone for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused, but the doctors have confined me to bed for 2 days. The timing couldn’t be worse.”

He did confirm, however, that he will be fit and ready to perform at this weekend’s By The C event at Torquay Common, alongside the likes of The Living End, Birds of Tokyo, Pete Murray, Kasey Chambers and more.

The lineup for Rock the Boat 2023 includes Noiseworks’ Jon Stevens, Daryl Braithwaite, The Black Sorrows, Mi-Sex, Chocolate Starfish, The Superjesus’ Sarah McLeod and Lecia Louise. Tickets are on sale now for the 2024 cruise. It’s happening in October and the lineup includes The Living End, Baby Animals, Screaming Jets, Mark Seymour and the Undertow and many more.
