Music icon Jimmy Barnes has called out Liberal MP and Minister For The Environment & Energy, Josh Frydenberg, after he referenced Barnes’ song ‘Working Class Man’ in a speech about energy costs.
Speaking to media alongside Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull at a steelworks factory in Port Kembla, NSW on Monday, Frydenberg aligned Barnsey’s iconic music video for ‘Working Class Man’ with Turnbull’s attempts at job creation.
“More than 30 years ago, Jimmy Barnes came to Port Kembla to make the film clip for ‘Working Class Man’,” Frydenberg said.
“Today, the Prime Minister has come to Port Kembla to create jobs for Australia’s working class men and women. The way we will do that is by driving power prices lower.”
Barnes has since responded to the MP’s namedrop on Twitter, saying: “Hey @JoshFrydenberg don’t use my name or my songs to sell your shitty policies. You don’t represent me.”

Barnsey has also been backed up by a large number of his fans, who are revelling in the singer’s dragging of Frydenberg…

Barnsey’s slap-back at Frydenberg comes after the singer hit back at American talk-show host Jimmy Fallon earlier this month, after Fallon poked fun at his recent collaboration with singer-songwriter Kirin J Callinan.
