Okay, look. It brings me absolutely no pleasure whatsoever, but is nevertheless my incredibly sad duty, to report that there is drama afoot in the “American alternative rock bands who gained success in the late 90s” community.
Not too long ago, Jimmy Eat World and Third Eye Blind wrapped up a co-headlining tour in the US together, and it seems like the two bands didn’t get along particularly well.
Earlier this month, Jimmy Eat World drummer Zach Lind tweeted “[Third Eye Blind frontman] Stephan Jenkins is such a fucking creepy douchebag (I feel so much better now.”
Lind went on to share a photo of a flyer from backstage regarding 3EB with the comment “LOL”. The flyer has pictures of the Third Eye Blind members and reads “The members of Third Eye Blind will not be wearing laminates. Please learn their faces so they are granted entrance to all areas of the venue, but please also be diligent in making sure they are the only people allowed entrance backstage without laminates.”
“Just the way these photos are arranged tells you all you need to know about that operation,” says Lind in a further tweet.
When fans defended Jenkins, Lind responded that he “felt bad” for those stepping in to defend him, saying his description of the Third Eye Blind singer was “extravagantly generous.”
“For those saying I should have said my peace in person, A) you don’t know I didn’t and B) you’re coming to the defense of someone who literally redrafted his bands recording contract for his own benefit on the eve of the signing & didn’t tell his bandmates until years later!”
It’s not every day we see such explicit alt-rock beef. For his part, Jenkins has not responded to Lind’s comments.
