Jimmy Kimmel‘s Lie Witness News has been hugely successful prank for the comedian and talk-show host over the past couple of years.
Kimmel has sent a film crew to Coachella and SXSW, among other events, to ask festival-goers questions about obscure-sounding acts that do not actually exist – exploiting the the stereotype that people will say anything to avoid looking uncool.
Previous editions of the segment have seen festival attendees express their desire to see the likes of Shorty-Jizzle & The Plumbercrust, The Obesity Epidemic and Get The Fuck Out Of My Pool.
Unfortunately it would appear that Lie Witness News may have reached saturation point with Coachella-goers, as most fans seemed to cotton-on to the falsity of the bands they were tested on in the most recent edition of the segment.
In fairness though, Kimmel may just be running out of creative, semi-realisitc-sounding ideas for band names – this year asking fans whether they were keen to see DJ Zika and The Vegan Alternatives.
