A collection of John Lennon‘s letters are set to be available in 2012 after Yoko Ono gave permission for her late husband’s correspondence to be published for the first time.
The Guardian reports that Ono is helping out in sorting through Lennon’s letters, missives and postcards to friends, family and fans for a tome that should appear in April next year.
The collection will be edited by Hunter Davies, Beatles’ biographer and friend of the band in the 60s. Ono’s own letters from Lennon are being sifted through, yet the extent of the deceased Beatle’s epistolary gestures is unknown, as it appears he kept up correspondence with countless pen pals over the years. Therefore Davies is asking anyone who might have a letter from Lennon to get in touch at johnlennonletters@hotmail.co.uk. Davies has 200 letters so far, and the anthology will be in chronological order up until his death in December, 1980.
A statement from the book’s publisher, Little, Brown said, “Pen and ink were his medium… John wrote letters and postcards all of his life; to his friends, family, strangers, newspapers, organisations, lawyers and the laundry – most of which were funny, informative, campaigning, wise, mad, poetic, anguished and sometimes heartbreaking.”
