Johnny Rotten Responds To “Sexist” Claims – “My Only Enemies Are Institutions, Certainly Not Women”

Following the massive fallout in the wake of his recent interview on The Project, Johnny Rotten has taken the time to explain just what went down. Well, sorta. Rushing his way through an airport, the embattled frontman has stuck to his guns, claiming that gender wasn’t the issue, but technology.

The care factor during the interview probably couldn’t have been any lower, given that Rotten was unaware which publication was interviewing him. He told WA Today, “I don’t know what it’s called, even. I just know someone wanted to film us.”

After having his memory refreshed, the PIL vocalist commented on the failed interview, explaining, “Yeah, there were a lot of people shouting at once and I couldn’t quiet make out who was what.”

Despite how the footage turned out, Rotten played down any talk of him being sexist. “My only enemies are governments and institutions,” he explained, “certainly not women. I’ve been married for 30 years.”

He added, “Some really silly and idiotic words were being used since then. I’m not a misogynist, I didn’t know if it were males or females on the other end. They all just sounded like hyenas and you have tell the hyenas to shut it from time to time.”

One female reporter on the scene came very close to waking up the monster once more when asking if it was all a publicity stunt to sell tickets. Rotten hastily responded, “Just sell tickets? I’m in the entertainment business, you silly girl.”

This is probably as close to an apology as the panel from The Project will get, most importantly Carrie Bickmore.

Rotten finishes with some advice for those looking to “pin and skewer” him:

“Look at the real details of my life, my political stances and what I believe in, my cast, my creed, my culture – argue with me on those bases and you’ll find that I’m flawless, faultless, blameless and handsome.”

Pretty sure he was actually asked a question on his political stance but we get it – it was loud.
