Joji has announced that his third album, SMITHEREENS, will arrive on Friday, 4th November. SMITHEREENS follows on from 2020’s Nectar, which topped the ARIA Top 50 Albums chart and went Gold in the US.
In June, Joji released the piano ballad ‘Glimpse Of Us’, which became his first chart-topping single in Australia. Now, he’s shared another new single, ‘YUKON (INTERLUDE)’, a glitchy track that combines elements of R&B and downtempo trip-hop.
Joji – ‘YUKON (INTERLUDE)’
Featuring co-production from Isaac Sleator, ‘YUKON (INTERLUDE)’ comes accompanied by a psychedelic visual directed by longtime collaborators BRTHR (pinkpantheress, Lana Del Rey, The Weekend). The clip sees Joji listening to a cassette tape by the beach, before a disco ball appears before him in the sky, ultimately melting at his touch.
Joji was born in Osaka in 1992 to an Australian father and Japanese mother. He launched his music career in 2017 after gaining a wide audience as the YouTube sketch comedian Filthy Frank. Joji’s debut album, Ballads 1, came out in 2018. He’s worked with Bonobo, Ryan Hemsworth and Diplo in recent years.
Currently, little is known about SMITHEREENS save for the two existing singles. The record is reportedly divided into two discs, though it’s unclear currently if it will arrive as a double album, or if it is simply presented in two separate parts for stylistic and/or thematic purposes.
SMITHEREENS is set for release on 4th November.
