Hot on the heels of releasing their sexy groovin’ new track ‘The Way You Used To Do’, Queen Of The Stone Age have dished some more deets on their comeback single.
And surprisingly, they’ve credited one of our own for partially inspiring the tune.
Speaking on Beats 1 Radio, frontman Josh Homme has revealed that he was vibing Aussie muso C.W. Stoneking‘s swingin’ style when he wrote the first single off the Splendour 2017 headliners’ forthcoming Villains LP.
“There’s this cat C.W. Stoneking from Australia that’s great, that plays in an old manner, almost ’20s jazz, you know?” Homme tells host Zane Lowe.
“It’s just wonderful,” he continues, explaining that he’s been listening to Stoneking’s swing-jazz tunes to help ease the sting of early mornings for years now, and it inevitably influenced QOTSA’s new sound.
“I think this is where influence is one of the greatest things ever,” he continued. “It shouldn’t be like ‘We should copy that’, because that’s gross. It should be ‘Where do I belong in this too?’ It resonates with me already when I listen to it, so if I were gonna be that, where do I be in all that?”
QOTSA’s Mark Ronson-produced LP Villains is set to be released on Friday, 25th August.
The band will make the trip to Australia in July to headline Splendour In The Grass and perform some festival sideshows.
