We’re getting really close to Apple Music‘s 30th June launch date and they’re bringing out the big guns to get users on board, announcing a stellar lineup of radio presenters for their global Beats 1 station.
Apple poached BBC Radio 1 presenter Zane Lowe earlier this year to curate the 24/7 streaming radio station and host a show. Speaking to The New York Times, Lowe dished the dirt on who else will be joining him to “host and plan” their own radio shows.
He revealed that Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age, St. Vincent, Disclosure, Jaden Smith, Drake, Elton John and, the original creator of Beats, Dr. Dre will all host their own shows.
The style of most of the shows is unknown, however, John revealed to The Times that his show would be titled Elton John’s Rocket Hour and would cover old and new music. Dr. Dre’s show will be called The Pharmacy but that was the only information revealed.
Apparently the idea for Beats 1 came from Nine Inch Nail’s Trent Reznor. After listening to Lowe’s BBC show, Reznor was intrigued by radio. “I wondered if in today’s world there is still a place for monoculture, can that still exist?” he told The Times.
Beats 1 will be available for Apple Music subscribers, even the non-paying ones.
In further good news, those that have been waiting to listen to Taylor Swifts 1989 on a streaming platform will be able to do so on Apple Music. After calling-out Apple for their three month royalty-free policy which led to their change-of-mind, the singer took to Twitter to announce the album will be on there.
“This is simply the first time it’s felt right in my gut to stream my album. Thank you, Apple, for your change of heart,” she wrote.
