Journey Drummer Deen Castronovo Jailed On Charges Of Rape

Deen Castronovo, the drummer of ’80s American band Journey, has been locked-up in an Oregon prison after being accused of rape among other crimes.

Castronovo was originally arrested in Oregon on misdemeanour charges relating to domestic violence, however, that has since been upgraded to charges including unlawful use of a weapon, rape and sexual abuse.

According to the Associated Press, the 50 year-old was arrested two weeks ago while hallucinating on meth. He was originally released on bail on the condition that he would admit himself to a rehab clinic immediately and stay away from the woman he is accused of raping.

However, it has been reported that Castronovo allegedly texted the woman 122 times and called her 35 times while on bail with threatening messages. He has since been locked-up once again and had a second request for bail denied.

During the bail hearing Attorney Jennifer Gardiner played two voice messages left for the victim. In one he says, “thank you for turning me in. Thank you for ruining my life even more.”

Judge Channing Bennett ruled that these messages showed that he posed a threat. “My finding is he has no regard for the court’s order,” he said. “I do find he is a danger to the victim.”

Castronovo has been the drummer for Journey since 1998. He replaced Steve Smith who drummed on the band’s biggest songs including Don’t Stop Believing.

Journey last toured Australia in 2013 with Deep Purple. The band are currently on tour with a new drummer Omar Hakim.
