Justin Vernon Says He ‘Felt Bad’ About Calling Out Eminem’s Homophobic Slur Publicly

In a new interview, Justin Vernon has addressed the controversy surrounding him, Eminem and Tyler The Creator last year, saying that he felt what he did was rude and that he felt bad about it.

ICYMI, Eminem dropped Kamikaze and took aim at Tyler, The Creator on a track titled ‘Fall’, a song co-written with Vernon, where he calls the rapper a “fa***t”, censored by a record scratch.

Vernon took to Twitter shortly after the album’s release to criticise Eminem for the addition of the slur, saying he “asked them to change the track, wouldn’t do it.”

“It is certainly not the time for slurs.”

Now, in a new interview with Zane Lowe – via Pitchfork – Vernon said he feels bad about how he handled the situation.

“I made that huge mess out of the Eminem song,” he told Lowe.

“I was just in a car wash, and I just tweeted. It’s like, what was I doing? I should’ve just probably chilled out and actually just said, ‘Please don’t put this song out.’”

He also said he should’ve kept it private, before adding “it was really rude, and I felt really bad about it.”

Vernon’s new Bon Iver album i, i is out now.
