Kanye West Is Working On A Sequel To Last Year’s ‘DONDA’

It’s four months since Kanye – whose name is now officially Ye – released the 27-song album, DONDA. He followed up with the 32-track deluxe edition just a couple of months later, pushing the total runtime past 90 minutes. But Kanye is back in the studio working on a DONDA sequel.

Complex spoke to Steven Victor, the former chief operating officer of Kanye’s label, GOOD Music. Victor is the current senior vice president of A&R at the Universal Music Group, the label conglomerate that distributes Kanye’s records.

“Ye has started working on his new masterpiece DONDA 2,” Victor told Complex. No other details were provided, but anticipation for another Kanye record was already rising after a clip surfaced last week showing Ye in the studio with Houston rapper and Geto Boys co-founder, Scarface.

The clip – posted without sound – shows Ye grooving hard on a synth as Scarface nods along from the other side of the room. Ye and Scarface have been connected since the early days of Ye’s career when Ye produced a handful of tracks for Scarface’s 2002 album, The Fix.

Despite being the most polarising album of Kanye’s career, DONDA has been a major commercial success. The album debuted at #1 on the ARIA and the US Billboard charts and has achieved Gold certification in the US. It’s nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.
