Kanye West is appointing new enemies at an especially fast clip, even by his own standards.
West (aka Ye)’s first target was 20 year old pop singer Billie Eilish. Eilish recently stopped a concert to find an asthma puffer for a struggling crowd member. Before resuming, Eilish commented, “I wait for people to be OK until I keep going,” which many perceived as a veiled swipe at Travis Scott.
The comment caused Ye to threaten to cancel his Coachella performance unless Eilish apologised.
“Come on Billie we love you,” Ye wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. “Please apologize to Trav and to the families of the people who lost their lives no one intended this to happen Trav didn’t have any idea of what was happening when he was on stage and was very hurt by what happened.”
Ye concluded, “and yes Trav will be with me at Coachella but now I need Billie to apologize before I perform.”
A couple of days later, Ye used to Instagram to express sour feelings towards his long-time collaborator Kid Cudi. “Just so everyone knows Cudi will not be on DONDA [2] because he’s friends with you know who,” Ye wrote. The unnamed friend is comedian Pete Davidson, the new boyfriend of Ye’s estranged wife Kim Kardashian.
To prove he hasn’t let go of the Eilish thing, Ye added, “We all speak in Billie language now.”
Cudi bit back in the comments, writing, “Too bad I don’t wanna be on ur album u fuckin dinosaur hahaha.” He included a crying-laughing emoji before adding, “Everyone knows I’ve been the best thing about ur albums since I met u. Ima pray for u brother.”
Ye and Cudi have been guesting on each other’s projects for over a decade. In 2018, they released their first (and only) collaborative album under the name Kids See Ghosts.
Ye’s next album, DONDA 2, is expected on Tuesday, 22nd February. The original DONDA came out in August 2021. Kid Cudi – real name Scott Mescudi – added vocals to the track ‘Moon’ and co-wrote ‘Remote Control Pt. 2’.
