It’s a sad day for fans of Kanye West and Jay Z‘s Watch The Throne collaboration, because it seems there won’t be another.
“There will never be a Watch the Throne 2,” Kanye announced during his Saint Pablo show in Seattle this week. He said it’s because of “Tidal/Apple” bullshit, and for those of you who need to be caught up on the “Tidal/Apple bullshit”, here’s a quick rundown.
Earlier this year it was rumoured that Apple was going to buy Jay Z’s streaming service Tidal. Then Kanye took to Twitter to say, “This Tidal Apple beef is fucking up the music game.” He then demanded that, “Apple give Jay his check for Tidal now.”
Apple didn’t buy Tidal and now Yeezy is saying that’s the reason why there won’t be a Watch The Throne 2. The first (and probably last) Watch The Throne was released back in 2011, and spawned the mega-hit Ni**as In Paris.
At his Seattle show, Kanye further spoke about Drake’s Pop Style, which he and Jay Z featured on before they were taken out of the song for the final album version. He blamed that removal on the Apple/Tidal beef again, saying, “Some Tidal, some political shit, some shit about percentages on songs. I can’t take this shit, bro!”
