Keep Sydney Open Is Throwing Another Music Festival To Protest The Lockouts

The Keep Sydney Open movement has announced its second one-day music festival to protest the city’s controversial lockout laws.

The new event, dubbed Meet Me In Darlo, will take place in and around Darlinghurst on Saturday, 21st October, with some of Sydney’s most beloved music venues taking part.

Run in partnership with the Darlinghurst Business Partnership, the festival will host live music in venues like Oxford Art Factory, The Cliff Five, The Oxford Hotel, Brighton Up Bar, Shady Pines, Golden Age Cinema & Bar and The Unicorn, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Keep Sydney Open Director Tyson Koh says Meet Me In Darlo is an important step towards strengthening Sydney’s nightlife.

“A report conducted by the Darlinghurst Business Partnership found that bars and clubs took a 33 per cent hit to their turnover after the lockouts, but shockingly, daytime business fell by 25 per cent,” he says.

“It shows how far-reaching the effects of the lockouts are on all aspects of the city’s vitality. There’s a sense now, however, that things are heading in the right direction. Creating a vibrant city starts with us, which is why we’re putting on Meet Me In Darlo. I think it’s time we get out there, take back nightlife and take back our city!”

Meet Me In Darlo will also feature creations from local food, retail and creative businesses when it kicks off at 3pm. A range of free and ticketed events will be on offer, with the festival running until 3:30am. The full music lineup is still to be announced.

Meet Me In Darlo is the follow-up to Keep Sydney Open’s previous music festival Meet Me In The Cross, which took place in Kings Cross back in July.
