Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke is set to return to Australia for a solo tour in March, backed by material from his second solo album, Trick, released in October.
Kele was last in Australia for Perth’s Circo Festival II, during which he took time out to play sideshows with some of his fellow festival acts in Melbourne and Sydney. This time around, Kele will be playing headline shows in major cities around the country.
Kele took to producing dancefloor-friendly solo tunes and mixes at the end of 2013, spurred on by his many influences and ideas. With Bloc Party on hiatus, Kele has firmly established himself as a multifaceted musician who continues to experiment with electronic music.
“Most people know me as the singer in Bloc Party, but anyone that knows our music knows that we have always been very honest about our love of dance music,” Kele has said.
“I have always loved the inclusive and spiritual nature of house music… It’s been quite eye-opening, seeing how you can manipulate a crowd by tweaking a mixer. It’s exciting seeing how the similarities of seemingly disparate worlds come together.”
Kele’s 2015 Australian solo tour will begin in Brisbane on Friday, 13th March. It will then hit the Sunshine Coast, Melbourne, Ballarat and Sydney before finishing up in Perth on Sunday, 22nd March. Tour details are available below.
