2016’s reignited Kanye West/ Taylor Swift feud just took another twist turn, with Kim Kardashian sharing footage on Snapchat today that seems to prove claims that Kanye West did in fact seek permission from Swift before naming her in the controversial lyrics for his track Famous.
If you’re not up to speed on the feud, let’s take a second to catch up. Kanye’s latest album The Life Of Pablo featured the track Famous which in reference to Swift featured the lyric: “I feel like me and Taylor still might have sex, why? I made that bitch famous.”
West insisted that the line was approved by Swift. Taylor Swift’s team has however, made a subsequent statement, saying that she wasn’t made aware of the exact lyric and that she “cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message.”
After coming to her husband’s defence many times, reiterating that Taylor Swift did know about the contentious lyrics, Kim Kardashian has now taken to Snapchat to share grainy footage that shows Kanye West on the phone with Taylor Swift, sharing the lyric and asking for her approval.
“I think this is a really cool thing to have,” West says in the video after rapping the Famous line. “I just had a responsibility to you as a friend, you know, and thanks for being so cool about it,” Kanye adds.
“For you to ask me if I’d be okay with it, I really appreciate it,” the voice on the phone, reportedly Taylor Swift’s, replies. “I’d never expect you to tell me about a line in your song.”
In an interview with GQ, Kim Kardashian said that she had footage of Taylor Swift signing off on the lyric and that even Rick Rubin, amongst others, heard that conversation.
In the footage shared today, Rubin can be seen next to Kanye. See it here for yourselves.
