Good news, Korn fans — it looks like your nu-metal heroes have begun work on recording their 13th studio album.
Details of the sessions come courtesy of drummer Ray Luzier, who posted an image of himself in-studio via his personal Instagram account.
Showing Luzier behind his kit, arms raised, the photo arrives accompanied by the passage, “Great day of tracking at Rock Falcon Studios.”
The picture’s hashtags also prove surprisingly informative, revealing that the image was taken by Korn’s James ‘Munky’ Shaffer and that recordist Nick Raskulinecz, owner of the Nashville studios, is also present. Given that Raskulinecz helmed production on the group’s 2016 album Serenity of Suffering, this could be taken to suggest he’ll once again be sitting behind the mixing desk on their next release.
As the production savvy amongst us would know, drum tracking typically occurs at the very beginning of the recording process, so the finished product could still be a little while off.
Earlier this year, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis told Music Feeds that the band had started writing their next album, which he said will “be out probably sometime next year, late next year”.
Where will the group be taking their sound? Well, speaking with Metal Hammer in May, Davis offered a few hints.
“I’ve listened to a bunch of stuff, there’s been really good ideas, really cool grooves,” he said. “It really doesn’t start taking place until I get there and glue all the shit together with the arrangements, and put my vocals on it.”
Korn were in Australia earlier this year, to headline the first Aussie edition of Download Festival. They’ve promised to return for a full tour in 2019, and at this rate they could be bringing new music.
