Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O have made the shock announcement they won’t be returning to breakfast radio next year, dropping the news this morning that their hit breakfast show on 2DayFM will wrap up on 29th November.
Southern Cross Austereo then released a statement confirming the news:
“Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O will not return to the airwaves together as the Kyle and Jackie O Show in 2014. Both Kyle and Jackie O will celebrate an unrivalled decade at the top of FM radio in Sydney where they have held the No.1 spot for over six years and a sensational 50 surveys at #1 in a row.
“There is no doubt their legions of loyal fans will want to say farewell to this dynamic duo and so a month of fitting celebrations will ensue.”
O, real name Jackie Henderson, said the decision was a hard one to make because of the show’s success:
“We’ve always been adamant that we would leave 2DayFM at a time of our choosing and this is a big step for us Kyle and something we wouldn’t take lightly. We feel we’ve achieved everything we could have achieved at 2DayFM and its time for us to start a new chapter in our lives. We’re going to miss it terribly.”
But no doubt detesters of Sandilands will be busting out the party poppers – the 42-year-old serial pest has had more than his fare share of controversy, interrogating a 14-year-old rape victim on air in 2009, racially and religiously vilifying actor Magda Szubanski in the same year and threatening violence against News Limited journalist Alison Stephenson in 2011.
