Labor’s Anthony Albanese To Drop Beats At DJ Set Next Week

It’s happening — the worlds of Australian politics and electronic music continue to slowly merge, with the announcement that senior Labor politician Anthony Albanese has locked in a DJ set in Melbourne next week.

Albanese’s set at Carlton’s Bella Union next Monday will henceforth be known as Anthony Albanese’s Greatest Hits, and will feature the Federal Member for Grayndler “dropping the beats and telling it like it is”. Heck yeah!

So what beats will Albo be dropping? The event’s presenter, Andrew Giles, Labor Member for Scullin, has told Music Feeds that Albanese’s Rage playlist from last election (below) provides some good clues. So if that’s anything to go by, expect some Bruce Springsteen, The Killers, Midnight Oil and Joy Division.

We’ve also reached out to DJ Albanese for comment on his upcoming DJ set, which, like any working DJ, he’s already promoting on his Facebook page. To get yourself in the mood first though, stream his Rage playlist in full, below.

Albanese is the latest Aussie politician to get into the DJ game, with Greens Senator Scott Ludlam dabbling in some EDM last year as DJ S-Ludz.

It’s unclear at this stage whetther Albanese will take a page out of Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s book and rocks some speed dealer sunnies for his set. We can only dream.

On a serious note, Anthony Albanese’s Greatest Hits is a fundraiser for Andrew Giles, the Labor Member for Scullin. If you’re keen as a bean for some Albanese-approved tunes, ticket details for Anthony Albanese’s Greatest Hits DJ set are available below.
