His highly anticipated album Riot Boi due for release in later this year, New York City rapper Le1f has just announced he will be returning to Australia in January next year for a headline tour.
Also appearing at Sugar Mountain Festival, it will be a whirlwind visit for the rapper, whose album drops on XL Recordings (FKA Twigs, Jungle) and Terrible Records (Solange, Kirin J Callinan) on the 13th of November.
A darling of the music media and blogosphere (that’s right, blogosphere, deal with it), Le1f is part of a vanguard of young hip hop artists who are redefining the genre. Inspired by the Bling era rap of his youth as well as by progressive electronica and underground dance culture, Le1f’s sound has already been labelled the future of hip hop by the likes of Pitchfork and The Fader.
With Riot Boi set to feature collaborations with the likes of Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) and with production from everyone from Lunice to Evian Christ, the album, Le1f’s studio debut following a spree of singles and mixtapes, has his fans watering at the mouth. And while the music itself is more than enough to get excited about, a new album means new music videos, an art form that Le1f has embraced whole heartedly, showing he’s as comfortable in-front of the camera as he is behind the mic.
