Legendary Country Folk Musician John Prine Is Touring Australia Next Year

After making his first trip back to Australia in over two decades back in March, veteran country and folk singer John Prine has announced he’ll be returning to Australia next year.

Already confirmed for next year’s Bluesfest in Byron Bay, Prine will also be making a trio of headline stops while he’s here, performing in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide (for the first time in 27 years) in April 2020.

“We are really excited to be heading back to Australia,” says Prine about the tour. “Fiona [Prine’s wife] and I loved every minute of our time there earlier this year. Looking forward to seeing you all again in Melbourne, Sydney and in Adelaide this time too!”

Prine has been making music since the the 1970s, and has become an icon of Americana in that time for his work, which have a unique wit and candour, turning mundane topics into powerful songs.

He’s received his fair share of praise here in Australia. “John Prine finds the beauty in the ordinary stuff of life. He speaks directly to our hearts,” commented Vance Joy, while Kasey Chambers has said “John Prine is one of my faovurite songwriters and biggest inspirations of all time.”

Back in April 2018, Prine released his first solo record in 13 years, The Tree of Forgiveness, earning with it the highest charting album of his career.

Check out tour dates below. Tickets go on sale Friday, 6th September. There’s Frontier and Love Police pre-sales happening on Tuesday, 3rd September.

In the meantime, watch Prine perform his 1999 favourite ‘In Spite of Ourselves’ with fellow American folk singer Iris DeMent below.
