UPDATE 05/06/16: Police have revealed that more than 80 people have been injured following the lightning strike, and the festival has now been suspended.
At least half a dozen people have been injured after lightning struck German festival Rock Am Ring for the second straight year.
As Blabbermouth reports, lightning struck the festival grounds at Mendig in the state of Rheinland-Pfalz around 8pm on Friday, 3rd June as the festival was paused until the bad weather cleared.
Performances resumed about two hours later but eight people were hospitalised as a result of the lightning strike. Tenacious D and Panic! At The Disco were playing at the time.
“Eight fans have been hospitalized for injuries sustained in a thunderstorm,” Rock Am Ring tweeted. One fan reportedly had to be resuscitated with a rescue helicopter sent to the scene.
They say lightning never strikes twice in the same place but this is the second year that this has happened at Rock Am Ring. In 2015, 33 people were injured when lightning struck the festival.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bullet For My Valentine and Black Sabbath are all still set to play the festival this weekend.
