Linda Marigliano & Gen Fricker Are Both Leaving Triple J

Two of the country’s favourite triple J hosts, Gen Fricker and Linda Marigliano, have announced their departure from the station today as they both look to focus on new endeavours.

Marigliano has been a part of triple J for a decade now, currently hosting the 9am – midday time slot. She released a statement via the station on what the past ten years have meant to her, and her bittersweet feelings regarding her departure.

“I feel overwhelmed with joy and genuine love for this station that has been my family for so many years,” she said.

“It’s more than music, it’s a real connection with the people around us. It’s an identity that we are lucky enough to be a part of with every single show, with every record that excites us and with every listener that calls up, shares stories and makes me laugh like a maniac because they feel like my best friend. Thank you for having me. It’s been fucking beautiful.”

Fricker has been a part of the station for five years now, but her impact certainly feels like she’s been around a lot longer. Currently hosting the lunchtime slot, as well as a stint co-hosting Drive with Lewis Hobba, Fricker has announced that she’s making the decision to leave so she can pursue her career as a stand-up comic – where she’s already been selling out shows across the country.

“I’m honoured to have spent the last five years talking absolute garbage with some of my best friends, favourite artists, and the greatest listeners in the world,” she said.

“It breaks my heart to leave, but I will be forever grateful for the chance to be a (small) part of such an iconic institution. To everyone who’s tuned in, texted or just enjoyed my general dickheadedry: thank you.”

This announcement follows yesterday’s announcement that Hack host Tom Tilley would be leaving the station. A few weeks ago, Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton also announced that they would be leaving the station for a new breakfast gig at Nova in their hometown of Adelaide.

The station will be announcing their new lineup tomorrow.
