Lineup Of Legends Confirmed For Coachella Organisers’ New Desert Trip Festival

Whilst Coachella was going down last month, festival organisers were reported to be putting together the lineup for a new festival at the same venue in Indio, California.

Set to feature six absolute legends of music; now Sir Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Roger Waters, The Who, Bob Dylan and Neil Young have all been confirmed on the lineup for the festival; to be called Desert Trip.

Coachella and Desert Trip CEO Paul Tollett said he wanted to top some of the huge Coachella lineups from the last few years; which have included reunions of bands like Guns N Roses, Rage Against the Machine and the Pixies. “The theme was rock & roll bands that have been playing consistently since the early days,” he said.

It took Tollett two years to slowly assemble the lineup. “If I’d made a financial offer first, I would have been rejected. The biggest challenges included getting the first act to sign on,” he said. “A couple said, ‘What are you going to do if we don’t do it?’ [I said] ‘If we don’t get these six, we’re not going to do the show.’ They said, ‘OK, that’s kind of interesting.'”

Although the details of what each act is getting paid have not been disclosed, it’s being reported that they’re receiving upwards of USD$7million per set. “They’re all getting what they’re worth,” said Tollett.

Details for Desert Trip have also dropped, with the mega-festival to take place from Friday, 7th October until Sunday, 9th October at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. Three-day general admission passes will cost USD$399, whilst a single day will set you back USD$199. Other tickets are available too, including standing pit passes for USD$1,599 – reserved floor tickets for USD$699 and reserved grandstand tickets starting at USD$999 each.

Tickets go on sale Monday, 9th May PST.
