The year is 2006, Yasiin Bey is still Mos Def and Kanye West is yet to be his boss. The two teamed up on The Light Is Not Afraid Of The Dark for Mos Def’s third album, True Magic, but the track was shelved and never saw the light of day – until now. Bey premiered the track live at a gig in Chicago last month and it’s now made its way online.
This follows Bey’s online stream of new material ‘Black Jesus’, a collaboration with Mannie Fresh and a taster of the upcoming OMFGOD BK NOLA project.
The Brooklyn-born rapper made the change from Mos Def to Yasiin Bey back in 2011, stating that it was “time to expand and move on”.
