Well it would seem that Anton Newcombe has left behind his roots in purist 60’s psych rock and embraced the synthesiser, at least that’s what the new song he’s just released as The Brian Jonestown Massacre would suggest. The first taste from their band’s forthcoming 15th Studio album, set to be released on April 30th, the track continues Newcombe’s tradition of borrowing and tweaking other bands, album and song names for his work, following on from Their Satanic Majesty’s Second Request and My Bloody Underground with a new personal best in my book, ‘Blue Order/New Monday.’
The new album is titled Aufheben, which is a reference to Hegelian philosophy and means to supercede or cancel, and seems to fit in with Newcombe’s new, more synth based style, reminiscent of a toned-down Soft Bulletin era Flaming Lips.
