Karen O has contributed a new and original song to the new Disney remake of the film Frankenweenie. The song, titled Strange Love, will be included on the film’s soundtrack, apparently as the major closing track to the film. The track premiered on BBC Radio 6 a few hours ago, and not surprisingly, has made its way online.
Karen O recently spoke to Rolling Stone about the song, saying: “Tim [Burton] wanted an unconventional unconditional love song. My music inspiration came out of the same era of B movie fright film references sprinkled throughout the film.”
She continues: “I went in the direction of exotica and calypso stylistically because it’s quirky, good vibes music of that era and when you throw in a theramin solo, it’s a marriage made in heaven. I remember Beetlejuice introducing me to the genius of Harry Belafonte’s calypso record, so I wanted to give a nod to that too.”
Frankenweenie is directed by Tim Burton, and is the remake of his own 1984 short film of the same name. Using stop motion animation techniques combined with the latest 3D cinema experience, the film parodies and pays homage to the 1931 film Frankenstein, where we see a boy named Victor attempt to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life.
The film will appear in Australian cinemas on 25th October.
