Listen Out organisers have announced not one but two replacements for Young Thug as the rapper – who was scheduled to play the festival in September and October – faces several felony charges in the US.
Back in April, Thugger was announced as part of the lineup for this year’s Listen Out across the country, alongside the likes of Disclosure, Tove Lo, 24kGoldn, Polo G and AJ Tracey.
Yesterday, (8th June), Listen Out organisers announced that as Thug’s “legal troubles” are “likely to continue into next year,” they have replaced him on the bill with Trippie Redd and Roddy Ricch. For Ricch, the addition marks his first-ever Australian shows.
Last month, Young Thug was one of 28 people – alongside fellow rapper Gunna – included in a 56-count Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) indictment centred around Thug’s YSL collective and label, which authorities argue is a “criminal street gang.”
Thug was charged with participating in street gang activity and conspiracy to violate RICO, and following a search of his home was handed drug and firearms possession charges. Thug’s lawyers have maintained the rappers’ innocence, and slammed the “dungeon-like” conditions of his jail conditions as he awaits trial.
Listen Out will kick off on Friday, 23rd September in Melbourne before continuing along to Perth, Sydney and Brisbane, before Listen In closes out the run in Adelaide on Monday, 3rd October. Find more info here.
