French electro pop outfit Phoenix have been teasing their freshest album, Bankrupt, for weeks now, and today is finally the day we get a taste of the first single, Entertainment.
Entertainment seems like the next logical step after the band’s last album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, gave them their breakthrough Stateside. The new single has a classic synth feel mixed in with frontman Thomas Mars’ distinctive vocals, making for one upbeat track that earns its namesake.
Spinning the track earlier this morning on triple j, presenter Zan Rowe noted that Bankrupt was recorded on the same console that Quincy Jones used for Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
Rowe also mentioned that Phoenix toyed with the idea of naming their fifth studio album Alternative Thriller, perhaps hoping for the same fortune in record sales.
Bankrupt is due out the week of 22nd April.
