British indie heavyweights The Kooks have returned with a brand new sing-a-long single, Down, providing a taster of their forthcoming and yet to be named fourth studio album.
Down reveals the band rediscovering just why they started making music in the first place. Written by singer/guitarist Luke Pritchard and young hip-hop pioneer Inflo, the song loops its hooks amidst energetic percussion, but it retains a subtle and soulful swagger.
Discussing the band’s new material, Pritchard said: “With this record we didn’t do any rehearsing beforehand… I’d write a song with Inflo or on my own, put it up and we’d all play over it. There was a real freedom to the process.”
Produced by Inflo and co-produced by Pritchard, Down was recorded in London and LA, and will be released digitally and on 7” vinyl on 21st March. The band’s next album will follow 2011’s Junk of the Heart.
The Kooks are currently showcasing new material at the South By Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas. The group was last an Australian shores in 2013, playing a number of headlining shows across April and May.
