Ball Park Music have shared new single ‘Stars in My Eyes’. It’s the second to be lifted from forthcoming seventh studio album Weirder & Weirder following last year’s ‘Sunscreen’, which came in at #21 on this year’s Hottest 100.
It’s a bright, buoyant cut from the Brisbane indie-pop outfit. “I’ve got a long way to go / I’m starting to wonder, was it all a lie? / Was there ever a time I had stars in my eyes?” frontman Sam Cromack sings above jangly guitars and gorgeous harmonies.
BPM announced Weirder & Weirder earlier this month, with the follow-up to 2020’s Ball Park Music slated to arrive on Friday, 3rd June via the band’s own Prawn Records.
“For more than a year we danced and dodged, fought and flirted with this music,” the band said in a statement when announcing the album. “Sometimes we had focused, frenzied periods of intense work; recordings popped up like daisies every which way you looked. Other times we thawed; the soft, slow heartbeat of the process swinging us far and wide with self-doubt.”
“It’s been a strange time you see. Not just because the world is sick, but because the one strict course through life is always a strange time. And when the already peculiar forces decide to turn up the heat, well, it’s most definitely time to sit by the flame and start jotting it all down.”
When announcing Weirder & Weirder, the band also teased a national tour, with a slew of dates and cities partially obscured by the album announcement. See those here.
