Green Day have returned with new single ‘Here Comes the Shock, premiering the song as part of the NHL’s recent Outdoors at Lake Tahoe game between the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights.
The new song arrives alongside a punk rock aerobics-styled video complete with skanking and air guitar. Watch that below.
‘Here Comes the Shock’ marks the first new music from the veteran punks since latest album Father of All Motherfuckers, which arrived in February of 2020. That said, the trio have been keeping plenty busy. Late last year, they revived side project The Network with their sophomore album Money Money 2020 Part II: We Told Ya So! – their first LP in 17 years under the moniker.
Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong also released No Fun Mondays, a solo covers album, back in November. Armstrong gave his spin on the likes of Adam Schlesinger’s ‘That Thing You Do!’, The Bangles’ ‘Manic Monday’, Billy Bragg’s ‘A New England’ and more.
Plus, the band returned to the stage for the first time in almost a year earlier this month as part of the NFL Honors show, which screened prior to the Super Bowl. Performing outside the SoFi Stadium in California, the trio ripped through classics ‘Holiday’ and ‘Basket Case’, along with ‘Still Breathing’ from 2016’s Revolution Radio.
