“Going through some old shit… came across this!” is usually heard after a friend or relative finds their old Tazo or Pokemon collection stashed in an old shoe box under their bed. In the case of Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker, it’s a recording of him writing one of his best-known singles.
After some shuffling sounds, the audio, apparently captured on an old Sony digital recorder, has Parker working out the vocal melody and ethereal organ chords to Feels Like We Only Go Backwards from Tame Impala’s universally acclaimed, ARIA Award-winning 2012 album Lonerism.
The early demo is the latest treasure to be shared by Parker on his beloved SoundCloud channel, through which he also unveiled his haunting cover of Michael Jackson’s Stranger In Moscow. Readers can check the recording below and watch Arctic Monkeys take on the track over here.
