As anticipation mounts for Atlanta metal giants Mastodon‘s new album Once More ‘Round The Sun — slated for release later this month — the band have offered fans another, hallucinatory taste of the highly anticipated follow-up to their acclaimed 2011 album The Hunter, titled Chimes At Midnight.
In April, bassist and vocalist Troy Sanders confirmed the album was recorded in Tennessee late last year with Nick Raskulinecz (Deftones, Alice In Chains), and while it won’t be a high-concept venture like some of the band’s previous albums, there will be “a few sprinkles of epic goodness.”
Like the preceding single, High Road, Chimes At Midnight roars with diesel-fuelled riffage and the band’s typically maze-like twists and turns, their trademark sense of grandeur and faultless musicianship, all the while brimming with the influence of King Crimson and early thrash metal.
