Neil Young has shared a reworked version of his 2006 single ‘Lookin’ For A Leader’. Originally created for George W Bush, he’s taking aim at Trump this time and like, if the song fits?
He’s calling it ‘Looking for a Leader 2020’ and he shared it as part of his Fireside Sessions, which is an acoustic series. This instalment was called Porch Light and the session was mostly focussed on Trump.
All of the Fireside Sessions can be caught here, but Neil Young has also released the new rendition on streaming platforms.
Taking aim at Trump in the re-creation of the track, Neil Young sings of Barack Obama, Black Lives Matter, and voting out Trump.
As part of changing up the lyrics to the song, Young sings, “Yeah, we had Barack Obama and we really need him now/The man who stood behind him has to take his place somehow/America has a leader building walls around our house/He don’t know black lives matter and we got to vote him out.”
He touches on a bunch of Trump failings, like his wall and hiding in his bunker during the Black Lives Matter movement.

In another instalment of Young’s Fireside Sessions, we got to see him perform to his chickens. Perfection.
Tom West recently wrote a love letter to Neil Young’s 1970 gem After The Gold Rush.
